Sarah Clarke, MD, FRCP, FACC, FESC, is an interventional cardiologist at Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridge, England. In addition to her main specialty, Dr Clarke has been a champion of developing high-quality clinical services, including a regional heart attack service and the new Royal Papworth Hospital, which opened in 2019.

Education

Dr Clarke undertook undergraduate medical training at Girton College and Addenbrooke's Hospital, University of Cambridge. She was awarded a research MD in Cambridge and undertook a fellowship in interventional cardiology at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, United States, from 2001 to 2002, before returning to Cambridge, England, as a consultant.

Research

Dr Clarke has delivered initiatives at the board level at the European Society of Cardiology and the American College of Cardiology. She is a joint author of the national quality improvement report for cardiology in the United Kingdom titled Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT).

Dr Clarke has held several high-profile national leadership roles, including president of the British Cardiovascular Society and president of the Royal College of Physicians, London.

She is deputy chair of the British Heart Foundation and an active fundraiser.

As vice president for Education and Research at the British Cardiovascular Society, she redesigned and delivered the annual educational conference into specialist tracks with hands-on training for procedures and imaging.

She has served on the Programme Committee at the European Society of Cardiology for several years, redesigned the general medical conference at the Royal College of Physicians, and developed and delivered Medical Care — Driving Change, a web portal to share best practice and improvement initiatives.
