Expertise

Rosy Anupama Jalan, MBCH, DMRD, FRCR, is the lead consultant for the musculoskeletal service at Barts Health. Barts Health is one of the largest NHS trusts in England, with a dedicated trauma centre as well as extensive orthopaedic and rheumatology departments. Dr Jalan's work includes all forms of complex imaging involving ultrasound, CT and MRI scanning. She also performs interventional procedures, such as biopsies and injections for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.

Dr Jalan's particular interest is in sports radiology, and she has been involved in the assessment and care of elite sportsmen and sportswomen as a part of a multidisciplinary team. As part of that work, she was one of the main radiologists working with the Premiership Rugby and football clubs.

In the private sector, she has led the formation of radiology teams to provide comprehensive service to groups of orthopaedic and spinal surgeons at HCA Healthcare and, more recently, at the Schoen clinics and King Edward VII's Hospital. She also has been involved in running private multidisciplinary teams mimicking the governance structure of the NHS.

Groin injuries are a particular interest, which she developed further as a specialty with the Gilmore groin group. She also has played a leadership role in developing a paediatric musculoskeletal service at the Royal London Hospital, including the "clicky-hip" one-stop approach for screening, diagnosis and treatment of hip dysplasia, which curtails the need for multiple hospital visits.
