Expertise

Kalpa De Silva, MBBS, PhD, FRCP, FACC, has expertise in treating and managing coronary artery disease, specifically through complex percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), including multivessel, left main and chronic total occlusion revascularization. He also has an interest in research education and technology development for refining and improving quality and procedural efficiency in PCI practice. Dr De Silva is dedicated to adopting and using new technology to improve procedural safety and patient outcomes.

Education

Dr De Silva studied medicine at St Bartholomew's and The Royal London School of Medicine, earning an MBBS in 2004. He then completed a PhD in cardiovascular medicine at King's College, University of London, with special training at St. Thomas' Hospital, London, on the use of coronary physiology in guiding the management of chest pain, angina and heart attacks. Dr De Silva trained in general and interventional cardiology at both King's College and St. Thomas' hospitals in London. Additionally, he completed an international fellowship in complex coronary intervention at the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney, Australia.

Research

Dr De Silva's PhD thesis work led him to being nominated for the American College of Cardiology Young Investigator Award. He continues to be an invited faculty member or presenter at international conferences on a variety of topics related to coronary disease and its management. He has authored more than 50 international publications in peer-reviewed journals and has also co-authored several books within the field of interventional cardiology.
